The Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) said housing transactions were likely to begin to rise over the coming months, from their very low base, and the end of the slump may be in sight. The group said low interest rates, lower prices and improving credit conditions were enticing buyers back to the market.
This optimism has also been reflected in an upturn in the number of property enquiries agents are reporting across the Algarve, with investors looking to snap up bargain properties. At the same time, agents also report that ‘distressed’ properties are drying up, with fewer properties coming onto the market with large discounts.
Fightback: The pound is at last gaining ground against the euro, yesterday rising to its highest level for three weeks. After weeks of the two currencies being virtually equal, the pound rose to €1.11 from €1.09.
It is thought that the European Central Bank might slash its own base rate from 2.5% next week, leading to historically low Euro mortgages from lenders.
